the main bathroom reveal
You guyssssss
I love the bathroom so much. I love everything about it. The mirror, the light fixture, the faucet, and of course the walls.
Ohhh the walls. I was inspired by Leanne Ford and did her signature wall treatment. It’s a lightweight cement texture that looks like plaster- but its not plaster, its much more durable and can be waterproofed. I’m going to do a separate post sharing my tips and what I learned after spending basically 30+ hours figuring out the texture/color variation of the cement. There was a lot of prep, trial and error. A lot of starting over. Lots of sanding, waterproofing, cementing, sanding again, painting, cement, more cement, sanding, and sealing. My wrist was swollen by the end. Every last minute was worth it though. When you’re in the bathroom it feels like you’ve been transported somewhere else. A villa in Marrakech? Sayulita, Mexico? There are so many places it reminds me of. I’ve been throwing around the term “organic minimalism” as my signature style so I really experimented with that while designing this bathroom.
Because the walls are so “organic” and almost messy feeling, I decided to go with sleek black fixtures everywhere to create contrast. The sink faucet and tub fixtures are all from Amazon! The faucet is the coolest. It’s currently sold out in the “short” size that I got, but the taller version is linked below. I would keep checking, i’m sure it will restock. It’s so unique- my ultimate design Inspo/favorite person Leanne Ford even sent me a DM on instagram asking for the source. That’s when you know you chose the right faucet haha!
The cement vessel sink is one of the smallest and most shallow on the market- 3.75” high. I wanted it to be as low as possible so it wouldn’t compete with the faucet and to make it blend visually with the walls. Concretti Designs has tons of awesome shapes and colors. I want to use this sink some day in a future project. I put the vessel sink on a simple Ikea Godmorgon cabinet. My main motivation for this whole bathroom was storage, and no one compares to the price and storage space Ikea has been able to create with these sink cabinets. They have special patented plumbing that frees up as much room as possible under a sink. The countertop is temporary- I originally was going to put the cement on the sides and top of the vanity to make it look like it was part of the wall. Once I started working with it, I realized it would be a nightmare to get to stick to the sleek vertical surface. For the top I planned on sanding it pretty smooth but it still would be very difficult to clean. I want a warmer marble eventually (currently it’s laminate) but there were delays with Covid I was just exhausted from renovating for months and just wanted to be done. Next time I get the urge i’ll work on that.
I originally ordered this mirror- and it looked great. But in the back of my mind I always wanted an asymmetrical “organic” mirror to soften the space up but was pretty sure it was gonna be a hard no from the husband. I showed him a few inspo pics and was shocked when he loved it! There were lots of mirrors on Etsy- they were pretty expensive, but there were many shapes to choose from. I found one on Amazon that was the EXACT same as a shop on Etsy was selling. I was a little skeptical for some reason because it was 1/3 of the price but the mirror is absolutely stunning and great quality.
The little shelf in the shower is so perfect- it adds just enough interest. I bought Aesop dupe plastic bottles from Amazon to put shampoo, conditioner, and body-wash in because I wasn't going to allow normal colorful bottles to clash with my beautiful bathroom after all my hard work haha! We thought about doing glass to close off the shower but it was too expensive. I opted for a luxury looking extra-extra long shower curtain. It’s a floor to ceiling waffle weave from -you guessed it- amazon! I bought five colors and tried them all but ultimately decided on stone white. It’s pretty nice in person, i’d say just never throw it in the dryer. Hang dry only. Yes, like every shower curtain that claims to be waterproof, you still need a plastic liner.
The last piece of the puzzle was the light fixture. I spent months and months looking for something minimal but with a fiber or jute texture- something that wouldn’t compete with the mirror. I couldn’t find anything and was considering “slacking” a pendant from the wall to get the jute texture I was looking for. Didn’t love it. Weeks later, my friend who knew I was looking randomly sent me a link to a light fixture and it was instant love. It was a little pricey though- luckily I found the exact light from Paynes Gray without the crazy markup. I’ve worked with them before and was gifted this light fixture. I couldn’t be happier with it. I linked more of my favorites from Paynes Gray here.
That’s it! I love it. If you look at my original vision board or go through the “bath reno” highlight on instagram, you’ll see that I was planning to change the floors- I’m glad we didn’t though. The current ones totally work as well- oh and they were free. :P
I love it!
I think it looks like it cost a lot more than it actually did! I’m bad at math and estimating but i’m guessing $1500- $1800 total. You can add everything up if you want and let me know haha! Thanks for reading!
I hope you’re inspired!
